Specialized Investment Funds (SIF)
India’s newest SEBI-regulated asset class, built for investors who want long-short and active-allocation strategies without leaving the mutual fund framework.
Beyond the limits of a traditional mutual fund
Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs) are designed for sophisticated investors who want the agility of a hedge-fund-style strategy with the regulatory security of the SEBI Mutual Fund framework.
Long-Short strategies
Take long positions in stocks expected to rise and short positions in stocks expected to fall using derivatives, aiming to generate returns across bullish, bearish and neutral markets rather than only in rallies.
Regulatory home between Mutual Funds and Portfolio Management Services (PMS)
Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs) operate under SEBI’s Mutual Fund Regulations, effective 1 April 2025 — bringing PMS/Alternative Investment Fund (AIF)-style flexibility inside a mutual-fund-grade regulatory framework.
Built for sophisticated capital
SIFs carry a SEBI-mandated minimum investment of ₹10 lakh per investor (at the PAN level, across all SIF strategies of one Asset Management Company (AMC)), unless you qualify as an accredited investor.
Systematic access, not just lump sum
Systematic Investment Plan (SIP), Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) and Systematic Transfer Plan (STP) modes are permitted, provided your cumulative commitment meets the ₹10 lakh threshold.
SIFs available through Aauriga Quantrade
We currently facilitate access to SIF strategies from the following Asset Management Companies (AMCs).

What exactly is a Specialized Investment Fund (SIF)?
A SIF is an investment structure introduced by SEBI, effective 1 April 2025, that lets Asset Management Companies (AMCs) offer strategy-focused schemes with greater flexibility than traditional mutual funds — including long-short equity, sector-based positioning and active asset allocation — while remaining inside the SEBI Mutual Fund Regulations.
Who should consider investing in a SIF?
SIFs are designed for experienced or high-net-worth investors who understand market cycles, are comfortable with moderate complexity and volatility, and can meet the ₹10 lakh minimum investment threshold, unless they qualify as accredited investors.
What happens if my SIF holding falls below ₹10 lakh?
SEBI rules require the Asset Management Company (AMC) to freeze further debit transactions on your units. You get 30 days to top up the amount; if you don’t, the AMC will redeem your investment automatically at the applicable Net Asset Value (NAV).
How is a SIF taxed?
Taxation depends on the specific fund’s structure and underlying asset allocation. Funds classified as equity-oriented and listed on a recognised stock exchange may qualify for Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG) treatment under Section 2(42A) of the Income Tax Act after a 12-month holding period; always confirm the applicable treatment for a specific scheme before investing.
